ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND AIR POLLUTION CONTROL
China’s efforts to address its serious air pollution offer the country the perfect opportunity to simultaneously cut its energy intensity.
To seize this opportunity, IIP partnered with the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP), and together we aim to strengthen the role of energy efficiency in China’s regional and city air pollution reduction programs. Our partnership included producing a report on how policymakers can include clean energy and energy efficiency programs in their air quality plans. Read more.
IIP’s China team has also been working with the China Energy Conservation Association and other national and local governments and experts. Through this initiative, we have collected data on energy and emissions savings, and investment in large energy efficiency projects, for local environmental authorities’ air quality models. This data will be used to develop a cost-curve for leaders in Chinese cities that shows the effect of energy efficiency on PM2.5 reduction.
Building on the results of the project’s first phase, we are also planning on rolling out the program in pilot cities, in partnership with the Clean Air Alliance of China.
