Somnath has more than 30 years of professional experience in the field of efficient use of resources and environment management in the industry and transport sectors. His principal interests are industrial energy management, internal combustion engines and prevention and control of pollution. Somnath started his career with the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, where he managed projects in the efficient use of fuels and lubricants in internal combustion engines, engine emissions and engine tribology. Later, as Director of the Energy Environment Technology Division at The Energy and Resources Institute and as Vice President of Winrock International India, he was involved in promoting diffusion of cleaner technologies in various end-use sectors. He has managed a number of projects in his area of expertise, including modernization of energy intensive small-scale industries. Somnath is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Delhi College of Engineering and holds a master’s degree from IIT Delhi.
