Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India is an agency under the Indian Ministry of Power. The primary aim of the agency is to reduce energy intensity in Indian economy by developing, deploying and increasing public and corporate awareness about energy conservation measures and practices. The organization coordinates energy efficiency and conservation policies and programs and establishes systems and procedures to measure, monitor and verify energy efficiency results in individual sectors as well as at a macro level. BEE focuses on eleven industrial sectors, which are Aluminum, Cement, Chemicals, Coalmine, Fertilizer, Furnaces, HVAC, Automobile, Petrochemical, Steel and Textile.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency coordinates the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) scheme of the Ministry of Power, where selected Industrial units who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization and conservation of energy are awarded. BEE publicizes the enterprises that receive the award as well as the projects they implemented in their industrial units. This has generated a valuable pool of energy efficiency case studies available for various industries including the cement industry (BEE, 2011a). Finally, the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) energy trading scheme  is designed and implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

BEE hosts a number of case studies and company presentations on energy efficiency improvements in cement industry, which are accessible here.
