Central Pulp and Paper Research Institute India (CPPRI)

The Central Pulp and Paper Research Institute India (CPPRI) was established in 1980 as a national level institute to promote R&D in the field of pulp and paper. It is an autonomous body under the administrative control of the government’s Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Industry. CPPRI currently has assets of INR. 30 Crores. The objective of the institute is to encourage the global competitiveness of the Indian paper industry and to focus its research and work on the areas of (CPPRI, 2011a):

  • Quality improvement
  • Cost competitiveness
  • Resource conservation
  • Cleaner production.

Major technological research areas of CPPRI include modern pulping & bleaching technology, paper making & coating, paper recycling, biotechnology, energy management and environment management (CPPRI, 2011b).

Technical publications by CPPRI in 2010 included the reduction of non-process elements for improved economy of chemical recovery system, Bagasse pith – as a potential source of bio-energy and value added products and the environmental sustainability of the Indian paper Industry – needs, trends & techniques (CPPRI, 2011c).

CPPRI has published several other research articles and reports in the field of pulp and paper making (CPPRI, 2011d).
