Japan Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (Japan TAPPI)
The Japan Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (Japan TAPPI) is an organization of pulp and paper scientists, engineers and managers in industries, governmental institutions and academia. Japan TAPPI was established to contribute to the advancement of the paper industry in Japan and the world. In total, 205 companies are members of Japan TAPPI and its headquarters are in Tokyo, Japan (JTAPPI, 2011a).
The goals of TAPPI are (JTAPPI, 2011b):
- Inviting the participation of young technicians, professionals and stakeholders from related industries to expand Japan TAPPI.
- Promoting multiple technology information via various publications.
- Promoting international exchange, contributing globally to technology progress.
- Promoting exchange between industrial, administrative and academic sectors, encouraging development of advance technology.
- Contributing to social development through a variety of activities.
The TAPPI journal of November 2011 discusses several advance techniques for the paper industry, such as modern retention technology for a higher ash load in paper, PARETOTM mixing technology to save water and energy, the role of Latex binder on the thermal conductivity of paper coatings, curtain coating for printing and board paper and the scientific and technical challenges associated with establishing a biofuel industry (JTAPPI, 2011c).
TAPPI also published “New Pulp and Paper Manufacture” consisting of several volumes discussing Kraft pulping, mechanical pulping, process control, environmental control, recycled pulp, sulphite pulping, bleaching of pulp and de-inking (JTAPPI, 2011d).
