Selective gas recycling in the Environmentally Process Optimized Sintering (EPOSINT) uses the fact that the release of particulate matter from the sinter bed tend to be more concentrated in those wind boxes that are situated towards the discharge end of the sinter strand where the waste gas temperature shows rapid rise. These windboxes are selected for waste gas recycling where the burn-through is at or near the bottom of bed. EPOSINT process allows selective diversion of waste gases from individual wind-boxes towards the end fo the sinter strand. This technology reduces the off-gas volume by up to 40%, saves energy and coke, increases productivity, and significantly reduces emissions (IPPC, 2012, p. 175).
