Integrated Casting and Rolling

In conventional finishing operations are cooled after casting and then need to be reheated in order to give final shapes and dimensions in rolling operations. Integrated casting and rolling is founded on the basic idea that by reducing the number of separate processes, or at least the physical distance between different processes, the consumption of energy and other consumables can be reduced and productivity can be enhanced. Today this approach is applied in different ways and complexities and under different titles. Some examples include: direct rolling; thin slab casting, strip casting. Depending on the chosen approach, the system these replace, and the product a wide spectrum of savings are possible through integrated casting and rolling.
