Preventing Scale Formation in Rolling

Scale formation during the reheating and rolling operations results in a loss of material, adversely affect the material quality and require further processing. This BFI research focuses on developing a thorough understanding of the scale formation mechanisms by conducting laboratory and field tests. Based on the findings a model based control system for temperature and furnace atmosphere are to be developed to reduce scale formation.

Preventing Scale Formation in RollingCosts & Benefits

Parent Process: Rolling Mills
Energy Savings Potential

Energy consumption and material loss will be reduced.

CO2 Emission Reduction Potential
Costs

Reduced energy and material costs, and minimisation of subsequent corrective measures will reduce the costs.
