ULCORED is one of the research areas within the ULCOS project and aims to further improve the direct reduction technologies based on natural gas. The technology involves replacement of the traditional reforming stage with the partial oxidation of natural gas. This change is believed to reduce the capital expenses. There will be only one source of CO2 emissions in this process, and this will be clean enough to store the gas directly (ULCOS, 2012). /p>

Energy Savings Potential |
This technology will consume less energy than other natural gas based DRI technologies. |
CO2 Emission Reduction Potential |
Reduction in emissions will occur when the technology is Used with CCS. |
Costs |
Cost of reformer are avoided. |
